Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is hypoglycemia?

Hypoglycemia, also called low blood glucose or low blood sugar, occurs when blood glucose drops below normal levels. Hypoglycemia can happen suddenly. It is usually mild and can be treated quickly and easily by eating or drinking a small amount of glucose-rich food. If left untreated, hypoglycemia can get worse and cause confusion, clumsiness or fainting. Severe hypoglycemia can lead to seizures, coma and even death.

  • Who's at risk for low blood sugar?

People with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can get low blood sugars as a side effect of diabetes medications, including insulin and oral diabetes medications that increase insulin production. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include hunger, sweating, shakiness, dizziness, light-headedness, sleepiness, confusion, difficulty speaking, anxiety, and weakness. There are also two types of hypoglycemia that can occur in people who do not have diabetes:
    • Reactive hypoglycemia, also called postprandial hypoglycemia, occurs within 4 hours after meals.
    • Fasting hypoglycemia, also called postabsorptive hypoglycemia, is often related to an underlying disease.

  • How is it treated?

If you think your blood sugar is too low, you should check your blood glucose level using a meter. If the level is below 70 mg/dL, consume 1 serving of LEVEL Life Glucose Gel — the amount equal to 15 grams of carbohydrate right away to raise blood glucose. Wait 15-20 minutes and recheck your blood sugar. If it is still low, take 1 more serving of LEVEL Life Glucose Gel. If your blood sugar is back to normal, eat a small meal or snack to avoid going low again and Keep Moving Forward!

  • Where is this made?

We take great pride in making LEVEL Life Glucose Gel in the USA!

  • How much will it raise my blood sugars?

This is dependent on the person, as well as, many variables and is impossible to provide an accurate number. A few of the variables include:
    · How much insulin you have taken or is still working in your system.
    · What you ate, when and how much
    · Your metabolism rate
    · How much you weigh
    · The amount or activity or stress that your under (physical and/or emotional)

These variables by themselves are very complex and when combined prevent accurate measurement.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) states that “with insulin induced hypoglycemia that 10 grams for oral glucose can raise plasma glucose levels by approximately 40mg/DL over 30 minutes.”

LEVEL Life Glucose Gels use the ADA and EMS community standard of treating hypoglycemia with 15 grams of glucose per pouch.

  • Can I use this product if I don’t have diabetes or hypoglycemic events?

Absolutely. We have many athletes that use Level gels to help keep them racing or training at a high level. They often tell us that the pure glucose provides the rocket fuel to keep them going.
